Senior Buyer required for a leading groundworks contractor who specialise in residential groundworks with national house builders, based in the East Midlands.

This established contractor, this is a £30 million turnover business has over 50 staff, who have an enviable reputation with the house builders. They have strong established house builder who they have dealt with for a numerous of years of repeat business, they are also winning work from new national and regional house builders who wish to work with them.

This senior buyer role is potentially to lead to running the department.

Role

Ensuring that the materials required for projects are provided to schedule and according to projected budgets.
You will play a vital part in helping ensure profitability of contracts and ensure the most cost effective and appropriate materials are purchased.
Manage and co-ordinate materials procurement within the designated areas, frameworks and supply agreements
Identifying potential suppliers and new products
Contacting a range of suppliers to obtain quotations and agree delivery times
Keeping detailed records and maintaining a well organised work schedule
Dealing effectively with challenges with suppliers and the flow of materials
Ensuring all work complies with quality, safety and environmental policies and the requirements of the company procedures
Negotiating and agreeing the most favourable terms with suppliers
Providing advice to the project estimator on the predicted cost of individual items
Assess and advise on commercial risk
Preparing and maintaining cost reports in order to maximise efficiency within the business

Required

Experience of working for a groundworks or main contractor, sub contract buying and plant hire
Purchase materials for sites daily in a very busy environment.
Take anywhere between one hundred and one hundred and fifty calls per day, each one being an order to place or a delivery to chase.
Look for better buying rates and sort credits for inadequate materials or late deliveries.

The salary is negotiable, depending on knowledge and experience.
