The Client

The client is a diversified, global construction services group. The company is now one of the UK’s largest privately owned construction firms winning schemes in excess of £100m in the new build commercial and mixed use sector together with large high rise, high spec residential and student accommodation schemes nationwide.

The Challenge

The client contacted Kenton Black to help them find a new project manager to spearhead a new flagship scheme in Birmingham. Kenton Black has a proven track record of sourcing the very best from the industry’s talent pool, and through previous recruitment projects had developed a good working relationship with the company’s hiring managers.

The greatest challenge for this assignment, was the very short timeframe in which to source, screen and interview candidates. A full out recruitment campaign would require a well thought through candidate attraction programme and tightly controlled candidate management process.

Our solution

Kenton Black knew that identifying suitable candidates had to be a combination of different sources and methods. Kenton Black followed the traditional route of advertising on a variety of websites to attract candidates as well as using the existing database to approach candidates directly. Due to the specific nature of the assignment, a proactive approach to networking through social media channels and gaining referrals was absolutely essential. Candidates, who trusted Kenton Black , were happy to talk to the consultant and refer colleagues from the industry.

Additional success came from the consultant’s methodical and detailed approach in keeping a personalised database of local Project Manager candidates’ details and CVs. He kept in contact with relevant candidates regularly so that strong options were close at hand and available very quickly.

The Result

Once all of the above methods were used, Kenton Black identified six candidates who were suitable for the role. The process was completed in less than three weeks. Once the candidate was appointed the consultant kept in regular contact with them, as well as the client’s management  team, and feedback on their performance has been extremely positive.
